Populated localities situated along the contact line in the Luhansk region's part controlled by Kyiv came under intense fire in the period from May 26 afternoon till Wednesday morning, head of the Luhansk region military-civilian administration Hennadiy Moskal has said.

“Popasna was attacked by use of mortars and automatic weapons at 9 p.m. on May 27. The town’s residential area was shelled by mortars at 4 a.m. on Wednesday. A mortar mine hit a house on Vorovsky Street. The house burned up, and its owner, a 55-year-old woman who was hiding in the basement, died,” the Moskal press service reported.

A Ukrainian army outpost in the village of Rodyna near Stakhanovets came under mortar and automatic grenade launcher attack after 4 p.m. on May 26. A 27-year-old serviceman of a company of the Aidar battalion was severely injured by shell fragments. He was taken to a hospital and died there two hours later, the governor’s press service said.

A privately owned house on Lermontov Street in Stanytsia Luhanska was directly hit by a shell, sustained extensive damage and burned to the ground. There were no civilian casualties.

The suburbs of Stakhanovets, an area of the town of Zolote in the Popasna district, where roadblocks of the Ukrainian army are situated, were shelled by 80mm and 120mm mortars and a tank from 4 a.m. till 5.30 a.m. According to the preliminary information, none of the servicemen was killed or wounded and residential areas were not damaged, the press center said.
