Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has forecast that the level of social welfare payments in 2012 will not be less than in 2011.

"The level of payments, welfare payments, and the payment of benefits will not be less than the actual payments that exist at the time of our conversation. These payments will be higher, but based on the opportunities provided by the state budget," he said in an interview with the parliament’s Rada television channel on Friday.

Lytvyn said that the payments would not be lower than those of this year.

He said it was necessary to implement the existing laws on social benefits and not to adopt other populist laws.
