Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn has said that parliament will not consider a bill on languages at its current session.

"I don’t think that the Verkhovna Rada will start considering this issue at this session," he told journalists in Zhytomyr region on Monday.

Lytvyn said that the Verkhovna Rada had a lot of issues that were extremely sensitive both in social and economic contexts.

"I think that we should not escalate passions on this issue," Lytvyn said.

He said that the consideration of this issue would be "an additional catalyst for splitting Ukraine into east and west."

According to the parliament’s working schedule, MPs will work from February 1 to mid-July in the current session.
