A local resident has been killed as a result of shelling of the town of Maryinka in Ukraine's Donetsk region, regional police chief Viacheslav Abroskin said on May 3.

“A Ukrainian military checkpoint came under fire. Also, a man, born 1959, sustained a fatal injury after a shell hit the courtyard of a private property in Pervomaiska Street,” the police chief wrote on his Facebook page on May 3 morning.

He said he thinks the attack was launched by Donetsk militants. The shelling occurred late on May 2 night.
