Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde has said she hopes that Ukraine will not impose a moratorium on external payments, but said that the fund has mechanisms for cooperation with countries which imposed moratoriums.

“If it doesn’t work out despite encouraging progress recently made, there is the possibility to go into a legislative process that institutes that moratorium. We hope that it is not required step in the process. But we have a policy in the fund, that is lending into arrears policy, and will apply this policy which will allow us to continue to support Ukraine despite that situation,” she said at a press conference in Washington.
