A former officer of the State Guard Department of Ukraine, Major Mykola Melnychenko has said he will ask the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) to strengthen the security it provides for him.

"I would like officially ask SBU to strengthen my security," he told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday before his visit to the main investigative department of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

When asked about the reason for this request, Melnychenko answered: "Ask Kuchma’s security officer about that."

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported that after Melnychenko came out of his car near the building of the Prosecutor General’s Office, a representative of Kuchma’s security took him aside and was observed talking to him.
