You're reading: Moscow views EU decision to extend sanctions against Crimea as economic, political blackmail

MOSCOW - Crimea is an inseparable part of Russia, and this reality cannot be changed through economic and political blackmail, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary on the Council of the European Union's decision to extend the restrictions it earlier imposed on Crimea and Sevastopol.

“Crimea and Sevastopol are an inseparable part of the Russian Federation. It’s about time to embrace this as a reality that cannot be changed through economic and political blackmail methods. The pressure and sanction tactics in relation to Russia is absolutely useless, and it is a mistake to expect that it could make us give up our national interests and our principled position on key issues,” the ministry said.
