The governing body of Interpol in Lyon has agreed that any prosecution of the former President of Georgia, the incumbent chairman of Odesa Regional State Administration, Mikheil Saakashvili, is unacceptable, the press service of Odesa Regional State Administration has said.

“In response to the actions taken by the government in Tbilisi, the governing body of Interpol in Lyon agreed that any prosecution of former Georgian President Saakashvili is illegal because it is contrary to the charter of Interpol, which means there are clear signs of political persecution,” reads a posting on the website of Odesa Regional Administration.

The relevant letters were sent to all Interpol member bureaus.

Similar resolutions were previously made by the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and other authoritative international organizations.
