You're reading: Peskov: Russian troops on border have no impact on events in east Ukraine

The Russian troops stationed near Russia's border with Ukraine are not having any impact on the events in the eastern region of this country, Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said. "Our troops are deployed in various regions, there are troops near the Ukrainian border too, some permanently, others sent as reinforcement against the backdrop of what is happening in Ukraine proper," Peskov said on the Sunday Night with Vladimir Solovyov program.

There was a military coup in Ukraine, and in this situation any country would be taking “special cautious measures in terms of providing its own security,” he said. As a sovereign state Russia is free to deploy its troops without limitation on its territory, Peskov said

“To claim that these troops have something to do with the events in east Ukraine or have some impact is absolutely wrong, and most likely all this falls into a category of twisting and deliberate pulling of facts over the truth that is no truth,” Peskov said.
