You're reading: Polish diplomat: Polish, Russian, German foreign ministers could take fresh look at Ukrainian crisis

Polish Ambassador to Russia Wojciech Zajaczkowski said he hopes an optimistic solution to the Ukrainian crisis will be found as a result of a meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia, Germany and Poland, Sergei Lavrov, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Radoslaw Sikorski, due in St. Petersburg on June 10.

“The upcoming meeting in St. Petersburg is an attempt to look at what we already know, what has already been said, but possibly from a new point of view. It is possible that the ministers, when the three of them sit down at the table, will find new and more optimistic options than those that we see today. But before this can be talked about, the meeting should take place,” the Polish ambassador said in an interview with Interfax.

Zajaczkowski stressed that “the result of the meeting between the three ministers will depend on the goals the three countries will set themselves.” “Naturally, first they will discuss the situation in the region, primarily in Ukraine, but there will be other issues too,” he said.

Earlier Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich said the focus will be on resolving the acute domestic crisis in Ukraine, discontinuing the bloodshed and launching a real inclusive political dialogue in this country.

This will be the fourth meeting of the ministers in this format.
