Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on April 24 expressed hope that the European Union would boost its support for Ukraine and for its plans for European integration.

In a phone call on April 24, Poroshenko and European Council President
Donald Tusk “discussed the last remaining details of preparations for a
Ukraine-EU summit” to be held in Kyiv on April 27, the Ukrainian
president’s office said in a statement.

“Donald Tusk declared readiness for further efforts to strengthen the
European Union’s solidarity with Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko expressed
hope that, during the summit, powerful signals would come from the
European Union in support of Ukraine and its European integration,” it
said.

“The Ukrainian president also stressed the importance of closer
relations between Ukraine and the EU in the sphere of security and
defense. [He and Tusk] came to an agreement to continue coordinated
action in the international arena in seeking the deployment of a mission
under the EU aegis to speed up the peace process in Donbas,” the office
said.
