Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has instructed the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to prepare and coordinate with the EU as soon as possible a plan for the ratification of Ukraine's Association Agreement with the union, the press service of the head of state has reported.

“After that, we want to conduct the ratification procedure as quickly as possible, observing all procedural norms,” he said at a meeting with the leaders of parliamentary factions and groups on Wednesday, July 2.

In addition, Poroshenko noted the importance of dialogue with the parliament and the government in the context of the implementation of a peace plan for eastern Ukraine.

“In these special conditions unity and mutual understanding of branches of powers are needed as never before,” he said.

He also said that he had already decided on a candidate for his representative in the Cabinet of Ministers. He said that this would be a person who deeply understands the economic processes and problems, as well as opposes populist decisions that harm the state. Poroshenko also raised the issue of holding parliamentary elections, which, in his opinion, remain on the agenda as relevant.

“The parliamentary elections meet the expectations of society,” he said, adding that he supports a proportional election system under open lists.
