You're reading: Poroshenko: Putin is first who opposes Ukraine’s decentralization

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that Russia and its President Vladimir Putin oppose amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in part of decentralization of power.

“Who is first who opposes our amendments to the Constitution? Putin. Russia. It wants that we agree how we can carry out decentralization with it. I beg your pardon, I would not permit that the Constitution is written outside [the country],” Poroshenko said at a meeting with representatives of territorial communities in Kyiv on Saturday.

“If Russia does not like amendments, this means that we’re moving the right way,” the Ukrainian president said.

Poroshenko said that in the past week he met President of France Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and others.

“Yesterday I had a conversation with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. Do you know what unites all these conversations? The whole global pro-Ukrainian coalition declares only one thing, more exactly two moments: first – we support Ukraine in the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements and insist on all liabilities taken. Secondly – we strongly welcome the constitutional reform of Ukraine in part of decentralization. I underline – only one country opposes this,” Poroshenko said.
