Decentralization does not mean weakening of power of state central government agencies in defense and security, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

“Quite grounded concerns emerged whether decentralization would damage unity of our country, whether it brings at least hypothetical risks for territorial integrity… I emphasize yet again that de-centralization does not mean weakening of power of the central authorities in such aspects as defense, foreign police, national security, supremacy of law, and compliance with all civil freedoms,” Poroshenko said in Kyiv on July 1 while presenting draft amendments to the Ukrainian Constitution on decentralization.
