Russia has occupied about 44,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in Crimea and Donbas, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

“The Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia in Crimea and Donbas is approximately 44 square kilometers,” the president said speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York on Sept. 29.

Poroshenko stressed that what is happening in Ukraine is neither civil war nor internal conflict.
