Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expects that a political decision on the provision of a visa-free regime for Ukraine will be fixed at the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga.

Poroshenko said that the issue of providing the visa-free regime for Ukraine by the EU must be divided into political and technical components.

“A political decision on the provision of the visa-free regime to Ukraine must be clearly fixed and there should be a clear list of technical issues which Ukraine is to fulfill by [the time of] the arrival of the last assessment mission. It will be a very clear and powerful motivation for Ukraine to settle all technical issues,” Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with Slovak President Andrej Kiska in Kyiv on May 20.

Poroshenko said that the next issue is confirmation of the European prospects for Ukraine.

“The EU is surviving in hard times. The key thing that we need from Europe is first the unity of the EU in relation to Ukraine. I’m sure that Europe will show unity and solidarity with Ukraine at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga and at the EU Summit in June,” he said.
