You're reading: Presidential administration names May 8-9 events to mark Remembrance and Reconciliation Day, Victory Day

A number of the events have been scheduled in Ukraine to mark the Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation, and the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazism in the World War II, deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Rostyslav Pavlenko said.

“For the first time Ukraine, along with the other democratic states, will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazism in Europe, which is a tradition for European states. May 8 is the Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation, May 9 is the Victory Day. On September 2, we will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of the World War II,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to Pavlenko, some events are already taking place.

There will be a solemn meeting of Ukrainian parliament on May 8 with participation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

Main events have been scheduled for the second part of the day. They will take part near the Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Kyiv.

As for the May 9, there will be public events on Khreschatyk Street staring from 09:00. Official celebration will start at 11.00 a.m..

In addition, there will be a concert, and in on May 9 evening parks in Kyiv will host performances by military orchestras. “Particularly, Holosiyivsky park will transform into a Lithuanian park for an hour, as an orchestra from Lithuania will perform its compositions. Mariyinsky park will become a Polish park, Shevchenko park – a Jordanian park, Peremohy park – a Serbian park and Hryshko park – an Estonian park,” he said.

The last in the celebration list will be a screening of documentary “Airport” on all TV channels. The documentary to display “cyborgs,” who defended Donetsk airport.

Pavlenko also said that the security measures would be tightened for these days.
