You're reading: President’s Administration: Independence Day, State Flag Day to be celebrated in all regions of Ukraine

The presidential administration has released a report on the events which will mark the Day of the State Flag and the Independence Day of Ukraine.

‘August 23 is the Day of the State Flag. As planned, the national flag will be hoisted on Sofiyivska Square in Kyiv at 0900, which will be done in all regions of Ukraine,’ Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Rostyslav Pavlenko said at the briefing in Kyiv on Friday.

On August 23, an exhibition entitled ‘Flags with History,’ will be officially opened on Sofiyivska Square by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Pavlenko said.

‘As has been mentioned, there will be no burial ceremony (to bury the ashes of a World War Two soldier and Anti-Terrorist Operation soldier) in the Park of Glory, but the president initiated an extended discussion about the ways to honor the memory of the defenders of Ukraine and in nearest time we will present more details on this, but only after the signing of the order, which stipulates the formation of the organizational committee, so that both representatives of the government and community leaders will be able to hold the discussion and come to a consensus regarding the ways to honor all those, who protected and continue to protect Ukraine,’ Pavlenko said.

On August 23, a variety of events for children and adults will be organized, including a concert by Ukrainian musicians entitled ‘More than a Symbol’ on Mykhailivska Square.

The concert will be held on Mykhailivska Square though its organizers reported on its relocation from Spivoche Pole, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration reported.

The concert timeframe remains the same – from 1900 to 2200,’ the press service said.The March of Independence will be held on August 24 at 1000 and senior government officials will take part. The final rehearsal of the March will take place on August 22, Pavlenko added.

At 2100, there will be a concert by a famous classical music orchestra at Maidan Nezalezhnosty, Pavlenko said.

On August 24, flash mobs with the participation of Ukrainians artists will take place on Khreschatyk Street and on Sofiyivska and Mykhailivska Squares, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration reported.

During these events, signatures on the flags will be collected, so these flags will be further given to (soldiers fighting in the) Anti-Terrorist Operation zone,’ the press service of Kyiv City State Administration said.
