The police have completed all the necessary investigative actions in a criminal case on the beating of journalist Tetiana Chornovol that could be carried out without the participation of the victim. The remaining procedures can be carried out only with the participation of the journalist, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported.

“We are waiting for Tetiana Chornovol to be discharged from the hospital, because without her involvement it is impossible to conduct investigative experiments, simultaneous interrogations and identification of suspects. It is very important to establish the truth and to check the testimony of the suspects,” the press service quoted deputy chief of the ministry’s investigations department Oleksandr Hnativ as saying on Wednesday.

As reported, Chornovol was beaten in Kyiv region in the early hours of Wednesday. She was driving her car when she was cut off by a dark-colored car. Unidentified individuals pulled the journalist out of the car and beat her up, pushing her car into a ditch.

The police first opened criminal proceedings under part 2 of Article 269 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (disorderly conduct), which were later re-qualified for Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code (causing grievous bodily harm).

The police detained five suspects involved in the attack.
