You're reading: Rada adopts law on creation of 112 emergency number

The Verkhovna Rada has approved a law to create the 112 emergency phone system.

Two hundred and forty five lawmakers of 419 those accredited voted for this law on March 13.

As the explanatory note read, 112 system will allow the rendering of aid to Ukrainian citizens in the case of threats to health, life, property, the environment, public order and other dangerous events or violations.

The introduction of the 112 emergency phone system on the territory of Ukraine will reduce economic expenses, save human lives and also to implement the demands of the European Union, first of all, during the holding of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.

The law introduces 112 single phone number to call emergency services, instead of several phone numbers: 101, 102, 103 and 104.

During the introduction of the 112 number, the existing telephone numbers of emergency service will be also used.

As reported, the 112 emergency phone system will start working in the cities hosting Euro 2012, in particular in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk in Q2, 2012 and then in other regions of Ukraine.
