The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has exempted certain categories of education, scientific-education and scientific workers from being drafted for military service.
A total of 266 MPs voted for the law on mobilization training and mobilization that concerns exemption from military service for certain categories of education, scientific-education and scientific workers during mobilization (No 2620).
According to the law, students, postgraduates and PhD students studying fulltime cannot be drafted. Others citizens exempted from military service include scientific workers, scientific-educational workers in universities, employees of scientific establishments and organizations if they have scientific degrees or an academic title, and school employees if a school is their main place of work and they receive at least three fourths of the pay from the school in question.
