You're reading: Rada to discuss SBU’s interest in Ukrainska Pravda journalist

The deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada committee on freedom of speech and information, Regions Party MP Olena Bondarenko, has said that a statement by the Ukrainska Pravda online newspaper about the "interest" of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in one of its journalists will be one of the questions discussed at the next meeting of the committee, the party's press service reported on Friday.

Bondarenko said that the committee on freedom of speech and
information is obliged to pay particular attention to any information of
this kind.

“The law of Ukraine on the Verkhovna Rada committees gives us the
right to monitor the actions of the government and law enforcement
agencies regarding the observance of human rights and the rights of
journalists and the prevention of attempts to exert pressure on the
media, if such cases are established,” he said.

She said that it was also necessary to take into account the recent
statement by the SBU about the legality of actions with respect to an
Ukrainska Pravda journalist.
