“…To impose temporary restrictions on the crossing of the Ukrainian national border by residents of Russian border regions. As of March 16, 2015, Russian Federation citizens who live in border regions will be allowed to enter Ukraine via international and inter-country checkpoints only, using their foreign travel documents, and to stay in Ukraine up to 90 days during a 180-day period from the date of first entry,” according to a Ukrainian Cabinet decree dated March 4.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is to inform the Russian government about the temporary restrictions over Ukrainian border crossing introduced for residents of Russian border regions, according to the document.
The decree becomes effective on the day of publication and will remain valid until it is repealed by the Ukrainian government.
On March 4, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk told the Cabinet: “Today the government has decided to terminate the Ukrainian-Russian agreement concerning minor border movement. As of March 16, the national border can only be crossed via the international checkpoints fully controlled by the Ukrainian government. Ukraine is terminating its agreement with Russia, concerning minor border movement.”
It was reported that in February Ukraine closed 23 checkpoints on its border with Russia, including one international, four inter-country and 18 local checkpoints.
