DONETSK, Rostov region - The lawyer for Nadia Savchenko, Mark Feygin, has said that Russia and Ukraine are actively discussing her handover so that she can serve her sentence in Ukraine.

“Yesterday I was in Kyiv and managed to find out a few more details: intensive talks are underway over a possible handover of Nadia Savchenko to Ukraine to serve the sentence,” Feygin told reporters on Oct. 6.

“It is possible that the Kremlin could set a precondition for the exchange to take place upon the defense’s withdrawal from the criminal case,” he said. “We are ready for that,” Feygin said.

On Wednesday the court will continue questioning the Russian federal security officer who claims to have delivered Savchenko from the Kantemirovka district to Voronezh.

On October 2, Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s press secretary, told reporters that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko raised Savchenko’s release with his Normandy group counterparts at their meeting in Paris but was told that this issue can only be discussed after completion of the trial over the Ukrainian pilot.
