Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin has met with the representatives of the US Embassy Christopher Smith and James Price in Kyiv and announced his plan to redistribute his responsibilities among his deputies.

According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine (PGO), during the meeting Shokin said that to increase the effective work of his office, he initiated a redistribution of functional duties among his deputies and in the near future will transfer the department for investigation into corruption committed by officials occupying senior ranking positions to the management of his deputy Vitaliy Kasko.

“It is a powerful department and I believe that under the tutelage of Mr. Kasko it is able to effectively fight against corruption among officials,” the prosecutor general said.

“As prosecutor general, I will not tolerate abuse and violations by either side. The law must be paramount. And all must be equal in a court of law. At the same time, investigations into cases should be based exclusively on the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine,” Shokin said.

Smith, in turn, said during the meeting “we remain ready to close cooperation in the issue of fight against corruption both inside the prosecutor’s office and in general in Ukraine.”
