Head of the Consular Section of the Embassy of Spain in Ukraine Jorge Urbiola has said he has noticed a positive trend in issuing of Spanish visas to Ukrainians.

“The stereotypical view that it is difficult to get a Spanish visa is
not true. We’re witnessing a positive trend in the issuing of visas,”
he said at a roundtable in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to him, in 2009 Ukrainians were issued more than 10,000
Spanish visas, in 2010 this figure was 28,500, in 2011 54,600, in 2012
they expect to issue about 70,000 visas.

Urbiola also said that the percentage of visa denials was very low, around 0.8%.

According to him, the response to an application for visa interview
comes within 24 hours, and the examination of documents takes around
five days.

“We’ll work hard to issue more visas, and reduce the time for processing the documents,” Urbiola said.

The consul said there has been an intensification of cooperation and
contacts between Ukraine and Spain in recent years, and particularly
since the victory of the country’s national football team at Euro 2012.

“In this regard I want to say that Ukraine is very popular in Spain,” he added
