You're reading: Ten Regions Party MPs, two independent MPs express support for Ukrainian people

A group of Regions Party MPs and two independent lawmakers are initiating an urgent meeting of the Verkhovna Rada to return to a parliamentary-presidential form of government and have expressed their support for the Ukrainian people.

“We, a group of people’s deputies of Ukraine, are calling for an
urgent meeting of the Verkhovna Rada today, on Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. to
return a parliamentary-presidential form of government,” they said in a
joint statement.

They also expressed support for the Ukrainian people and the expression of their will.

The lawmakers said that they are concerned over the bloodshed on the
Kyiv streets and the victims on both sides of the confrontation.

“We officially declare that we condemn actions intended to escalate
the armed conflict, and urge both sides to stop aggressive actions and
start peaceful talks involving international observers from the EU
[Germany, Poland], Russia and the United States,” the document reads.

The MPs also addressed the soldiers of the interior troops, units of
the Interior Ministry and Security Service of Ukraine asking that they
“execute the oath they swore to the Ukrainian people, not to follow
criminal orders to use firearms, not to allow the participation of law
enforcers in provocations involving gangs against the peaceful public
and protesters all over Ukraine.”

The statement was signed by MPs from the Party of Regions Andriy
Derkach, Volodymyr Zubyk, Hryhoriy Smitiukh, Oleksandr Kuzmuk, Volodymyr
Pekhov, Volodymyr Prodyvus, Volodymyr Struk, Mykola Soroka, Viktor
Bondar, Viktor Tykhonov, and two independent lawmakers – Oleksandr
Tabalov and Andriy Tabalov.
