You're reading: The United States’ Department of Agriculture raises sunflower seed yield forecast for Ukraine by 1 mln tonnes

The United States' Department of Agriculture (USDA) in October raised the forecast of the yield of sunflower seeds in Ukraine in 2015 by 1 million tonnes, to 11 million tonnes, compared to its forecast announced in September.

The forecast for sunflower oil production in the 2015/2016 marketing year (September 2015 through August 2016) was also increased by 9.5%, to 4.578 million tonnes, the USDA said on its website.

Sunflower oil exports were projected at 4 million tonnes, which was 8% up on the previous forecast.

Oilseed meal projection is expected at 4.55 million tonnes against 4.179 million tonnes forecast in September.

As was reported with reference to the State Statistics Committee, Ukraine harvested 10.1 million tonnes of sunflower seeds last year, which was 7.7% down on 2013.

Ukraine is among the world’s leaders in production and export of sunflower oil.
