Supporters of a united Ukraine held a rally in the center of Donetsk on Thursday.

On Thursday evening over 5,000 people were attending the rally and
more were arriving, an Interfax-Ukraine corresponded reported.

Participants in the rally were holding Ukrainian flags and other
Ukrainian symbols, time and again singing the national anthem, and
chanting “United Ukraine” and “Glory be to miners, glory be to Donbas,
glory be to Ukraine.”

Deputies of the city council and regional council were noticed in the
crowd and included regional council secretary Serhiy Bohachov.

Politicians, members of parliament and activists were taking the floor.

The meeting was guarded by large police forces and self-defense
groups – men who were not members of any political groups but had come
together to protect the event from potential attacks from pro-Russian
activists.

A large medical team was posted at the rally, and so was a group of volunteers who had been given a first aid briefing.
