You're reading: Truce holding in Luhansk region with sporadic shooting

The ceasefire is generally holding in most of Luhansk region in the east of Ukraine, but sporadic gunfire was heard last night, Luhansk Region Administration, headed by Governor Hennadiy Moskal, said on its website.

At around 10:00 p.m. on Feb. 26, militants fired mortars against the 29th checkpoint on the Luhansk-Artemivsk motorway in the Popasna district, it said. No one was killed or injured.

In a separate development, sporadic shootouts involving small arms, grenade launchers and mortars broke out between militants and Ukrainian government forces near the village of Krymske in the Novy Aidar region. The village was not affected by the shelling. No Ukrainian servicemen were killed or injured.

No shelling was reported in other parts of the Luhansk region, including Stanytsia Luhanska, the town of Schastia, the village of Troitske, the town of Popasna, and the village of Triokhizbenka of the Novy Aidar district.
