Six hundred forty thousand ticket buyers registered online in the first 18 hours for the Euro 2012 soccer championship, Poland’s Super Express tabloid has reported.
However, the Union of European Football Association’s (UEFA) server has been overloaded with requests worldwide ever since it started accepting ticket applications on March 1 disrupting normal servicing of ticket applications.
More than 600,000 tickets are being made available to the general public for next year’s European soccer championship taking place in Poland and Ukraine June 8 – July 1.
UEFA plans to allocate a total of 1.4 million tickets for the 31-match tournament in which at least 700,000 foreigners are expected to visit each country.
UEFA ticket planning and sales director Pedro Correa said on March 1 in Kyiv that the soccer governing body expects to make $100 million in ticket sales alone.
Tickets are being sold exclusively on www.uefa.com through March 31 only. In April, UEFA plans to allocate tickets via an internationally audited lottery system.
