You're reading: Ukraine, Cuba agree on production of medicines

DNIPROPETROVSK – The National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, the State Affairs Department and the Cuban ambassador to Ukraine have signed a memorandum on cooperation in the production of vaccines and medicines.

According to the document, a delegation of Ukrainian experts and medical scientists is to visit Cuba soon to study the possibilities of producing Cuban vaccines and medicines in Ukraine, President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine Andriy Serdiuk told Interfax-Ukraine.

"I and probably Health Minister Raisa Bohatyriova will go there during the final stage, presumably in April, and then we will address the issue of gradually organizing such production in Ukraine," Serdiuk has said.

According to him, they are considering the production of both vaccines and other types of medicines in Ukraine.

"They have an excellent vaccine against hepatitis B, they are developing cancer vaccines, and we will work on … various medications," Serdiuk said.

He said that they expected to draft a plan of activities in this area by the middle of 2012.
