Ukraine will hold its next local elections in October 2017, according to presidential draft amendments to the constitution.

“District and regional councils to be formed during the next regular local elections in October 2017 will create executive committees consistent with the law on local self-government, which establishes the powers of executive committees of district and regional councils,” says Item 4 of the interim provisions of the draft constitutional amendments posted on the Verkhovna Rada website on July 2.

The provisions said that, prior to the creation of executive committees by district and regional councils on the basis of the law on local self-government but no later than March 1, 2018, local state administrations will continue to execute their duties in their areas of responsibility.

Ukraine will hold local elections in October 2015. At the same time, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said it would be expedient to hold new local elections across the country following decentralization of power.
