You're reading: Ukraine’s international reserves 3.5 percent up in June – NBU

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in June increased international reserves by $346 million, or 3.5 percent, to $10.264 billion, the central bank said in a press release.

“This was due to the formation of a positive balance of NBU interventions in the interbank forex market, revenues the government received from the placement of Ukrainian government bonds worth $140 million and conversion of Chinese yuan in the amount of $419.2 million,” the NBU said.

The regulator said in the past month the state paid $275.6 million in foreign debt repayment and service, another $175.7 million was repaid to the International Monetary Fund.

“Currently the volume of Ukraine’s international reserves is sufficient to fulfill the commitments and ongoing operations of the government and the National Bank of Ukraine,” reads the report.

As reported, in May Ukraine’s international reserves grew by $287 million, or 3 percent. Since the beginning of the year, they have increased by 36.3 percent, or by $2.731 billion.
