Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Park of Glory in Kyiv early on June 22.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn and Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov had also attended the flower-laying ceremony.

After laying flowers at the memorial, Azarov, Lytvyn and Popov also laid flowers at the monument to three-time Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Kozhedub in the Park of Glory.

On June 22, Ukraine is holding events to mark the Day of Mourning and Memory of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War, which started on this day in 1941.
