The Public Committee on the Protection of Electoral Rights has been created at Verkhovna Rada Commissioner on Human Rights to monitor the election process in Ukraine.

As the press service of the ombudsperson reported, the committee will
recommend that the commissioner draw up acts if there are violations of
the election law.

The public committee was created with the support of Renaissance
International Fund, and also with participation of the representatives
of the public organizations, in particular, the Chesno (Fairly)
movement, Maidan (Square) Alliance, and the Committee of Voters of
Ukraine.

Human right advocate Oleksiy Honcharuk was appointed to lead this public committee.

“The creation of the public committee at the commissioner represents
the implementation of recommendations foreseen in the report of Freedom
House international organization on the state of democracy and human
rights protection in Ukraine. In particular, this concerns the creation
of the working group on operative responses, which will have powers to
consider complaints concerning elections,” Ukrainian ombudsperson
Valeria Lutkovska said.

Moreover, Lutkovska also appointed Mykhailo Chaplyha as the
representative of the commissioner on the maintenance of the electoral
rights of the public. Lutkovska charged him with drawing special
attention to the protection of the active electoral rights of the
public.
