The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has foiled a plot to stage provocations during the May holidays in Kyiv, which were being prepared by people of former Ukrainian prime minister Mykola Azarov, who is currently in Mosow? advisor to the SBU chief Markiyan Lubkivsky said.

“The SBU has disrupted plans to stage provocations on May 1 and 14 in our capital with the aim to destabilize the socio-political situation,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on April 30.

The SBU identified all perpetrators, coordinators and masterminds of the so-called “marches of white headscarves” who were trying to join coal miners’ protests, he said.

“The main courier was held near the Central Train State on April 29 after he arrived in Kyiv on the Moscow-Odessa train from Russia. A search of the courier’s apartment led to the discovery of 200 gram TNT bombs and about 500 leaflets with calls on Kyiv residents to take part in protests on May 1,” Lubkivsky said.

“During the interrogation of the courier we established that he was the main coordinator of these protests, which are directly funded by the so-called office of former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and former MPs [Oleh] Tsariov and [Volodymyr] Oliynik, who are currently in Moscow,” the adviser said.
