You're reading: Ukrzaliznytsia starts designing subway in Donetsk

State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia is starting work on a project for Donetsk Metropoliten, which will be built above ground.

According to the press service of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, Vice Prime Minister, Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov told this to the head of state.

"We have created a department of surface subways at the ministry, and now Ukrzaliznytsia is starting designing Donetsk Metropoliten, which will be built using an above-ground method," the press service said citing Kolesnikov.

He added that this also concerns relevant projects for the further development of the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv subways.

According to Kolesnikov, the project implementation in Donetsk should start not later than March 2013.

"The goal is to open the first line [of the subway] not later than December 2014," the minister said.
