 U.S. Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland during a working visit to Odessa on June 8 met with Odessa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, and heads of Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk regional administrations, Ihor Palytsia and Ihor Kolomoisky.

 During the meeting, the officials discussed the current situation in Ukraine in general and Odessa region in particular, the press service of Odessa Regional State Administration has said.

“Among the key issues of interest to U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Nuland were further plans for the development of Odessa region, the government plans to fight corruption and the ways the central government can help in this matter,” the regional administration’s press service said.

Palytsia expressed confidence that corruption would be eliminated at the local level and stressed that Odessa was open for investment.

“The cooperation with foreign investors will be held in keeping with the applicable law. At the national level, everything should change with the new president,” Palytsia said.

In turn, Nuland said that a mission of American investors may arrive in Ukraine this fall and reiterated the U.S. support of positive changes in Ukraine, and the support of the efforts to further stabilization especially in the east of Ukraine.
