You're reading: US says Crimea-related sanctions against Russia will remain even if Minsk agreements are fulfilled

WASHINGTON – The strict implementation of the Minsk agreements won't make the United States change its policy of imposing sanctions against Moscow due to its occupation of Crimea, Director of the U.S. Department of State's Press Office Jeff Rathke has said.

Asked whether the implementation of Minsk agreements will have an effect on sanctions related to Crimea, he said: “Yeah, those [will] remain.”

This was a result of the previous statement of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, who American sanctions against Russia “must and will remain in place until the Minsk Agreement is fully implemented.”

However, Biden did not mention what sanctions he was talking about: all the sanctions or those which are connected with Crimea.
