The U.S. promises to continue to assist Ukraine's economy and to train the country's armed forces, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt has said.

“We are going to continue to provide a number of non-lethal systems, including UAVs and Humvees,” Pyatt said in an interview with Donbas public TV.

The ambassador recalled that the U.S. deployed a broad range of security sector assistance, which has now reached a total of $244 million. It includes night vision goggles, secure radios and Humvees. “And I was especially encouraged when I met today with the leadership of the ATO Command to hear how effectively they have been able to use the U.S. provided counter mortar radar systems,” Pyatt said.

At the same time, the ambassador said he was convinced that the most valuable support the U.S. provided to Ukraine was the training of Ukrainian army units at Yavoriv training ground in Lviv region.

In addition, Washington is currently focused on a very large program of economic assistance to Ukraine, Pyatt said.

“I want to make clear that we are supporting Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in every way possible to prevail in this war of aggression that they are engaged in with Russia,” the diplomat stressed.

Pyatt believes that Ukrainian army is becoming increasingly capable of defending itself against the Russian forces and the Russian-supported separatists.

When asked if there are items in the Minsk agreements that have never been made public, the U.S. ambassador said there were none.
