Serhiy Vlasenko, a defense lawyer of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, hopes that European law enforcers would open criminal cases on corrupt activities of the current Ukrainian leaders.

"Yulia Tymoshenko, as the leader of the united opposition, has addressed various law enforcement agencies in various member states of the European Union with requests to investigate into numerous corrupt schemes used by high-ranking officials of Ukraine," the lawyer said at an online conference hosted by the LigaBusinessInform agency on Friday.

Vlasenko specified that he meant "the so-called privatization by the team of [Ukrainian President] Viktor Yanukovych of Ukrtelecom, derricks owned by [Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Minister] Yuriy Boiko, corrupt actions during the construction of Euro 2012 facilities, as well as illegal privatization of Mezhyhirya [the residence of the Ukrainian president]."

Vlasenko added that the U.S. Congress and Senate are to consider draft resolutions on introduction of various sanctions against the Ukrainian authorities, in particular drawing up of a black list of Ukrainian officials that are not welcomed in the United States, as well as freezing of assets of the Yanukovych family in the United States.

"I really hope that such a resolution would be adopted soon," he said.

Be careful what you pray for, you might get it. Such actions as mentioned in this article can rapidly turn in to a two edged sword at the very least.

Corruption is extant and an art form in the entire former SSSR and most of the world. Ukraine is an example. Top to bottom, side to side, corruption is here. Not saying it's right by any stretch of the imagination, but it is reality.

However, corruption did NOT start in Ukraine in early 2010 as many would like to think. Corruption goes back centuries here.
