His like minded friends probably see him as a principled man, the rest of us as a fool. By what right does he assume to judge others? We have no place in Ukraine for this ultra nationalistic speak only Ukrainian nonsense. Tabachnyk is working well and putting to rights many problems left over from the previous administration, and he at least tries to speak Ukrainian which is more than can be said of lots of the population.

A fool, he is not.A highly principaled man, a proud ukrainian and not a degenerat tabachnyk.

That he is a patriot is no contest and a nationalist so what , that is no crime to be one.

yeah, he tries to speak it while trying to get rid of it and say we're really Russians, denying the Holodomor, and punishing education. Are you braindead? It's people like you we don't need

Tabachnyk is an ultra nationalist Russian. He should be deported to Moscow, where he belongs - with the rest of his criminal comrades.

Vasyl Shklar is another Shevchenko. A man who will go down in Ukrainian history despite Tabachnyk and idiots like Van the Man and others who confuse patriotism with fascism. A patriot is a nationalist who loves Ukraine and is willing to sacrifice for his country. Something the stupid dedbeats who write their stupid comments do not understand. These stupidos can be bought for a few dollars and there are too many of them in Ukraine. Bravo Vasyl Shklar. Slava Ukraina. And Tabachnyk is not a Russian he is of the Jewish faith. And a Semite cannot be a Slav.

Respectable move from a respectable writer. I wish more intellectuals would make themselves vociferous in protest of today's mayhem in Ukraine.

Shame on Ukraine's hypocritical politicians!

Mr. Shklar has courage and guts and principles - he has, as they say, put his money where his mouth is, by turning down the money associated with the literary prize.

His book has caused a lot of backlash among homo sovietici types, because it is not in harmony with the homo sovieticus "version" of Ukraine's history.

His story, "Black Raven" or "Zalyshynets" (Залишинець - or "Left Behind") is an interesting one, because it does indeed cover the fight in Ukraine against the bolsheviks in the 1920's in central, southern and eastern Ukraine.

But he chose a period of time during that fight when those in central Ukraine, who were fighting against the bolsheviks, had lost the support of the villagers, who had previously supported them, had taken food to them.

They lived by a creed "Freedom for Ukranie or death" - like Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" in the US (colonies at the time).

Why "Black Raven"? Because they were fighting a hopeless battle, they were reduced to eating raw ravens, with no salt, as Mr. Shklar says in his interview in Ukrainian Pravda (linked to below).

Why "Left Behind"? Because they were abandoned and "left behind" by their own people in their fight for the freedom of Ukraine against the bolsheviks.

They were portrayed as bandits by the commies, and there was a deliberate effort by the commies to erase any trace of these freedom fighters.

But Mr. Shklar made this is life's work, as he says, and he was able to find many prime sources in the historical archives, including documents submitted by Chekhists (NKVD).

He has done a great service to Ukraine and to the world for writing this novel, based on documented facts.

Here is the link to his interview in Ukrainian Pravda:

so here it goes!

i do not like...blaa...bla...bla...

and bang right in the head

i do not like that russophile Dmytro Tabachnyk

really!!!

so my petulant candy-theiving supermarket tot, Vasyl Shkliar is throwing all mighty tantrum..

by the way, it is not important here, but our vasyl [SHKLIAR] is not of 100% ukranian-slav roots or it seems that way...

that no matters for now...

what matters is this

what is he about?

what does he want to prove?

what is his beef?

the guy is obviously SPOILT grown-up...

this ludite...nation-wrecker thinks he can stop time

ludites tried and they failed

vasaline will not get far either

vasily, the novelist, historian novelist, has over-reached himself this time

why does he attack,Dmytro Tabachnyk?

me thinks he is a paranoid fascist who is on high...maybe less wine and more coffee would assit him...total onanist...

attaking the minister of education for no other reason save that he is well-disposed to SLAVIC version of history...

smacks to me of someone who lives and works in a parallel word...

the world that does not resonate with the modern ukraine...

vasyl is lost

the book, the plot in the book, the message in the book is a travesty of the modern ukranian nation...

where has vasyl been all this time?

polish camp, austro-hungarian regements, hitler's OUNs, terristial UFO commandos...

no no no and no

as the french would say

'el tip' is lost in time, space and place...

is there anyone in the UNIATES orders that MAY educate our vasyl, at least that is slavic name, that this kind of escapades do not do good to anyone, least to the character himself...and the UNIATE cause

he is on drugs...

he may need clinical diagnosis...

but cheap shots at our minister of education, Dmytro Tabachnyk,

is really infantile.

so as for vasyl, his lofty writing career shows all the signs of being

unnecesarily hyped and

confined to some UNIATE-LVIV-TOILET grafitti walls...

POR it is not better than that and

surely it does not desrve

to be treated better than that.

lets leave our UNIATE VASYL

protest, cry, pull the mama's skirt at the supermarket

and be a pain in the arse

to himself...

he deserves no better...

A petulant UNIATE IS something else...

HE IS a mr ANTI-everything...intellectual devoid of reality...deviant

cheers

rat-zinger, the pope

i am coming to my UNITATE BROS...

LOVE YOU..YOURS ROMAN CATHOLIC HEAD BISHOP...

meanwhile, may god keep our vasily [SHA-LIAR] sane...

cia-o bambi-ni

Mr.Shklar is obviously a man with principles and honour.

Obviously, lessons haven't been learned from Konotop by our "asiatic" neighbours.

No matter what, you can't keep the truth hidden forever.

Just remember you can take Ukrainians out of Ukraine but you can't take Ukraine from out of Ukrainians.

Great !

{# <-- parent id goes here
Anonymous March 13, 2011, 4:54 p.m.

i do not know if he is honourable or if he is not

that it is his private business...

mixture of politics, honesty and honourability

does not sit well...

let this SHK-LIAR be what he wants

but when he mouths things that

are beyond his level of competency

and have all to do with his UNIATE slant

then he is just ANOTHER

pissy little turncoat

who does not have any idea

of what

ukranian

patriotism

culture

pathos

is

for his ukranian credentials

are more aligned with

some foreign UNIATE, AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN, POLISH, CAPITALIST toxin

UKRAINE of today is a sovereign country

that is right

SOVEREIGN

just that some people and here SHR-LIAR in particular

hark and bark and carp

is of no consequence to

loyal citizens of our ukraine

he is misguided

he is narcissistic

he is precious

he is intelectual

he is difficult

so the best thing to do is

just let him

suck on his lolly-pop

cheers,

rat-zinger esq

your red UNIATE BISHOP

prince on the white horse

who with you, my abject UNIATE subjects

is coming to liberate our ukraine.

Interesting how much hatred is thrown at Ukrainian patriots

here. That this writer is both a good writer and an extra-ordinary

give us more such selfless patriots who put their country before

themselves. Didn't JFK say something to that effect? "Ask not....."
