In an effort to remind Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych who he works for, an effort is under way to collect as many mug shots of Ukrainians as possible and present them to the nation's leader later this month.
The grassroots effort is designed to literally show Yanukovych the faces of Ukraine.
A six-meter banner covered with passport-sized pictures has been hanging in the lobby of the Kyiv Theater near Lva Tolstoho metro station for the last month. Anyone willing to contribute to the “portrait” had a chance to do so by simply gluing his or her picture to the banner or sending one by e-mail to the New Citizen group, the project organizer. “We are trying to make Ukrainian citizens realize they are in charge of the process,“ said coordinator Svitlana Zalishchuk.
