Stable economic growth in Ukraine in the last two years allows implementing a number of social initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ welfare and the quality of their life, president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview with Alla Mazur for the TSN-Week program, official web-site of Ukrainian president reports.

Yanukovych said that one of the priorities of the social initiatives he announced is the construction of affordable housing. "We are now working to create the conditions for every person to be able to get a very favorable mortgage loan. Firstly, it will be given for 10 to 15 years. Secondly, the interest rate will be 2-3%. And the difference will be funded from the budget," he said.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, the construction of affordable housing would contribute to further growth of the national economy, development of the construction industry, building materials production, etc.

The president emphasized that the announced social initiatives are absolutely real and not populist.

"This social program will perform many functions. First comes a person and a family, second – the economy," Viktor Yanukovych said.
