SOFIA, Bulgaria — Authorities say a dam has collapsed following heavy rain in southern Bulgaria, flooding a nearby village. A radio report says at least 3 people have died.

The civil defense chief Nikolai Nikolov said the village of Bisser, near the Greek border, was inundated when the dam on the Ivanovo reservoir collapsed Monday.

Authorities say the 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) high flood wave has swept nearly 90 percent of the houses in the village of 800.

A reporter at the scene told Bulgarian National Radio that the bodies of three elderly men have been recovered from the raging waters.

Authorities flew rescue teams and special equipment to the scene from Sofia.
