You're reading: Kofi Annan says he doesn’t know who is arming Syrian opposition

MOSCOW - Arab countries are not supplying weapons to the Syrian opposition, said UN special envoy Kofi Annan.

Weapons and materiel are probably reaching [Syria], but it is impossible to say from where, he said at a press briefing after his visit to Russia. The regional governments I had dealt with told me they had no plans to do this [to provide weapons to the Syrian opposition], he said.

Annan also said that he had urged Qatar and Saudi Arabia to support his mission in Syria.

He urged all to respect the peace process.

Annan said that he was generally satisfied with his visit to Russia and with contacts with the Russia president and foreign minister.

He said they were very cooperative and they pledged to inspire the parties to such cooperation.
