WARSAW, Poland — Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska, who won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1996, is recovering well after an operation, her secretary says.

The 88-year-old Szymborska did not want details of Tuesday’s surgery at a hospital in the southern city of Krakow disclosed, but "everything is well," said secretary Michal Rusinek.

Szymborska’s poems, which have been translated into many languages, have been praised for using tiny details of daily life to describe the value and mystery of man’s existence.
