MINSK- The Belarusian Border Guard Committee has denied entry to the country to 17 foreign journalists. According to the committee, journalists did not have journalistic accreditation issued by the Foreign Ministry.

“On August 18, 17 representatives of foreign media were denied entry to Belarus at Minsk National Airport because they didn’t have accreditation to conduct journalistic activities on the territory of our country,” the Border Guard Committee said.

The foreign journalists intended to enter Belarus as tourists, the committee said. The committee said it had “exposed their true intentions.”

“They all said they were only interested in visiting various places of interest in our country, but journalistic IDs from various television and radio companies, professional equipment, and a large amount of cash that was found revealed their true intentions, which contradict Belarusian legislation,” the committee said.

According to earlier reports, the Border Guard Committee earlier confirmed that “a very attentive attitude” to foreigners seeking entry into the republic is continuing amid the current situation in the country.
