The Council of the European Union on June 24 imposed economic sanctions on Belarus affecting the oil sector, as well as potash production.

“The Council today introduced new restrictive measures against the Belarusian regime to respond to the escalation of serious human rights violations in Belarus,” the EU Council said in a press release.

The new sanctions are targeted at trade in Belarusian petroleum products and potash, as well as equipment, technology, and software.

A total of 166 persons and 15 legal entities of Belarus are thus now under EU sanctions, the press release said.
